There’s been a controversial goal at Goodison Park.
Middlesbrough went ahead thanks to an own goal from Everton goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg who failed to keep hold of a cross into the box, resulting in the ball going into his own net.
However, the score got Everton fans booing as they were adamant that Boro’s Alvaro Negredo had fouled the keeper and forced him to drop the ball as he challenged for it in the air.
GOAL Everton 0-1 Middlesbrough (21mins). Negredo heads the ball in. Is it a foul? #EVEMID pic.twitter.com/1lVTowckEp

It has also sparked a bit of debate on Twitter, with some feeling the goal should not have been given.
That can't possibly count. Negredo fouled the keeper. That's ridiculous. Fans really letting the ref have it. #EVEMID

I'm sorry but that's a foul all day, he headers his hands which causes him to drop the ball? #EVEMID

I'd be head butting the keeper's arms all day long. #EVEMID

Comms & pundits are all saying that's a legitimate goal, but Negredo didn't actually touch the ball, so how could it possibly be? #EVEMID

The Boro forward headed the arms of the Everton goalkeeper. How those bt commentators could say that was a fair goal is laughable. #EVEMID

But others disagreed and welcomed the fact that referee, Lee Mason, didn’t feel the need to protect the goalie.
Good goal soft goalkeeping #EVEMID

Great to see a goalkeeper not being over protected for a change #EVEMID #PremierLeague

The Beast! Negredo scores (or maybe a howling OG) but GK has to be stronger and he's just dropped it. Good decision from the ref! #EVEMID
