A local Councillor has said the death of a man who was hit by a lorry in Omagh in Co Tyrone is a tragedy.

The collision, involving a Ford tipper lorry, happened on Great Northern Road close to the Brookmount Road overpass at around 4.50am this morning.

The victim has been named by police as 24-year-old Neil McAleer from the Omagh area.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the crash.

The PSNI is appealing for witnesses to the collision to contact them.
