Comedy podcast My Dad Wrote A Porno has been nominated for a prize at the Radio Academy’s Arias awards.

Featuring Jamie Morton and his friends James Cooper and BBC Radio 1′s Alice Levine as they read and de-construct the bizarre erotic fiction written by Morton’s father, known as “Rocky Flintstone”, the podcast has earned a passionate fan following and a dominant position in the iTunes chart.

Radio 1′s Scott Mills and Kiss FM’s Pandora unveiled the nominees for the inaugural Audio and Radio Industry Awards (Arias) on September 19, a successor to the Radio Academy Awards.

Rocky’s first novel is an e-book entitled “Belinda Blinked; 1 A modern story of sex, erotica and passion. How the sexiest sales girl in business earns her huge bonus by being the best at removing her high heels.”

Special guests on My Dad Wrote A Porno, which is now on its second season with the sequel Belinda Blinked 2, have included Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley and Lord Of The Rings star Elijah Wood.

Also nominated in the podcast category are Athletico Mince, The Modern Mann, The Story of Izzy Dix and Storytime with Boon.

Archers fans will be rooting for the BBC Radio 4 soap in the audio moment of the year category, where the episode in which Helen stabs Rob has been nominated.

All five nominees for the Best News Coverage prize are from BBC Radio, with BBC Radio 4 getting a nod for its programme about the death of MP Jo Cox.

BBC Radio Merseyside is in the running with its broadcast of Hillsborough Inquests: The Verdicts, while BBC Radio Foyle could win the award for its coverage of the Buncrana Pier Tragedy.

The Arias replace the Radio Academy Awards, also known as the Sony Awards, which began in 1983 but were scrapped last year.

Bob Shennan, Joint chairman of the Arias and Controller of BBC Radio 2, commented: “It is so good to have the Radio Academy awards back.

“They are the blue riband event of the year, reflecting the respect and commitment the whole UK industry feels about our favourite medium. Above all they have the hallmark of integrity.”

Performers at the awards ceremony on October 19 in Leeds will include the Kaiser Chiefs, Rick Astley and Gregory Porter.
