Rosamund Pike, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Toby Jones are among the British stars who have united to show the odds of getting cancer in a new film series.
The actors are seen in a series of poignant films and black and white photos, tossing a coin and checking to see which side it lands on, demonstrating that one in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
Jack O’Connell, Lily James, Sophie Turner, Stephen Graham and Will Poulter have also taken part in the campaign, which was created by British photographer and film-maker Greg Williams in aid of Stand Up To Cancer.
Many of the stars involved have been personally affected by cancer, with both Jack and Lily losing their fathers to the disease.
Gone Girl actress Rosamund said: “Let us fight, support, listen, engage, raise money and awareness, and spur on the vital research funded by this campaign.
“One in two people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. It is time to come together. It is time to save lives.”
Game Of Thrones star Sophie added: “I know that if we come together now to make our stand against cancer, the better chance we have of beating the disease for good in the future.
“I want to be part of the generation that really makes a difference and I hope everyone will join me this October.
“Cancer doesn’t just affect the person who is diagnosed with it, it affects their family, their friends, everyone around them. So we need to stand up to cancer for our family, for our friends and for ourselves.”
Creative director Greg said he was “proud” to be involved.
“Stand Up To Cancer brings together some of the brightest stars of the entertainment industry to shine a spotlight on the need to do more research into a disease that affects so many of us,” he said.
“I lost my mum to cancer, so this is a cause incredibly close to my heart and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
The shoot aims to raise awareness of Stand Up To Cancer’s work to fund research that will result in kinder treatments and cures for cancer patients in the UK, and will ultimately save lives.
Stand Up To Cancer is a joint national fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK and Channel 4 which was launched in the UK in 2012.
