A new report by Daft.ie shows that being close to a secondary school can add thousands of euro to the price of a house.
According to the property website on average, house buyers pay a 2.5% premium to live near a second-level school.
Proximity to secondary schools that have a good track-record of college progression, adds an average of 4.3% to house prices.
“There’s lots of other things that may move in the same way, so lots of good schools, it might be close to the coast, it may be close to good neighbourhoods,” said author of the report is Economist Ronan Lyons.
“But trying focus just on the bit that’s due to the school, we found that on average, there’s a two-and-a-half percent premium for being 100m metres away, quite close to the school, as opposed to being a kilometre or more away.
“When you look at the average house price, that translates into a little more that five-and-a-half thousand euro on the average house.”
