A MAN in his 50s found dead in a camper van at Ferrybank campsite is believed to have lain undiscovered for a week.
The man, who had a UK passport, was discovered on Friday evening by locals who noticed that the van had not been moved for a number of days.
The slip in the window that vans are required to display in campsites read September 10, suggesting that the vehicle should have vacated the bay a week earlier. The group looked in the window and saw a man’s head. They proceeded to shake the van but got no response and they contacted the Gardai.
Gardai subsequently gained entry to the camper van and found that the man had died.
One person, who was at the scene, remarked: “It’s sad to think that no one had noticed that he had been there for an extra week. You would think someone would have come around when his lease on the bay ran out.”
Gardai confirmed that there was no suspicion surrounding the death.
A wreath was laid at the bay by the group who made the discovery.
