Manchester United have have a poor run on the field and ex-player Gary Neville thinks they are also getting a rough ride online.

After opening their season with a Community Shield and three Premier League wins, Jose Mourinho’s men have since suffered three straight defeats, with domestic losses sandwiching a defeat to Feyenoord in the Europa League.

The run of poor results has resulted in a flurry of negative headlines about the club, with particular focus on new signings and captain Wayne Rooney.

Old Trafford legend Neville is unimpressed with the negativity and said so on Twitter.

He may be hoping in vain. As Guardian reporter Barney Ronay pointed out – in today’s 24-hour news cycle, even a short run of disappointing results can appear a crisis.
