A Dublin City Councillor is calling for “flotels” to be used to alleviate Dublin’s housing crisis.

Known as floating hotels, the structures are erected on waterways in the Shetland Islands for workers on oil refineries out at sea.

Cllr Mary Freehill has said that they should be erected on waterways around the city to provide accommodation for homeless people.

“They’re a very specific kind of accommodation,” she said. “They come in all different specifications and standards.”
