A man in his 50s has been arrested in Co. Monaghan, in connection with dissident republican activity.

The 53-year-old was arrested as part of an on going investigation by Gardaí from Carrickmacross, who were assisted by Gardaí from the Special Detective Unit along with the Regional Support Unit.

The man was arrested after house and its surrounding area was searched.

He was taken into custody at Carrickmacross Garda station where he can be questioned for up to three days.

Gardaí say their investigations are ongoing.
