The Green Party has said that it can make real changes to the country in the next Dáil term.

The Party – which saw two TDs elected in February – is holding its think-in today.

Top of the agenda is a directly elected mayor for Dublin, which it says would provide leadership on the transport and homelessness crisis.

It also wants to introduce banking legislation for public banking and to encourage more lending.

Leader Eamon Ryan says these are just two of the areas where the party can bring about change.

“We’re concentrating today and looking into this next Dáil term as to what we can do, and there’s some examples of things we can still do,” he said.

“One of the advantages of minority Government is that it actually brings responsibility to the Opposition as well as the Government to start putting forward real solutions, and that’s what we want to do.”
