Ballycanew has been adjudged the winner of the Tidy Towns County Award for the fifth time with 310 marks, but only just, with Blackwater gaining an extra five marks to come in runner-up one point behind, when the results were announced at the Helix, Dublin, today (Monday).
Last year Ballycanew edged out Blackwater by two points, but this year it was even closer.
Ballycanew gained four extra marks and the local committee and community are delighted to carry the title for at least another year.
In his summary, the adjudicator, who was paying his first visit to Ballycanew, said he was delighted to witness so much progress in the village.
“Your entry has outlined in great detail the all embracing efforts of your committee, the involvement of your youth and your ability to form partnerships with other interested agencies, is now proving beneficial to your campaign.”
