Rory McIlroy might have missed out on victory in a golfing major this year, but the 27-year-old has earned himself a substantial consolation prize.
The Holywood golfer landed a cool $1.5 million (€1.33m) for winning the Tour Championship, and the victory meant he also bagged the season-long points race the FedEx Cup. The prize? $10 million. That’s €8.8 million, in case you were wondering.
So his total earnings were $11.15 million (€10m). Not bad for a day’s work.
McIlroy, who will compete for Europe when the Ryder Cup starts on September 30, was taken to a play-off in the Tour Championship, beating Ryan Moore on the fourth play-off hole.
And it was Dustin Johnson who he beat to the FedEx Cup, earning himself the pay day.
McIlroy’s form bodes well for the Ryder Cup, during which he’ll hope to help Europe beat the USA once more.
At the very least, he’ll be in a good mood.
But there’s one thing he can’t buy…
You said it, Homer.
