One Wexford All-Ireland winner has showed that he can still do a job for the club, writes Stephen Barry.

It may have been almost exactly 20 years since Rory McCarthy and his teammates lifted the Liam MacCarthy Cup, but the St Martin’s clubman is still enjoying his hurling.

At 41 years young, McCarthy now plies his trade as a full-forward at Junior B level. You couldn’t imagine the Blackwater full-back was too keen to see him coming last Sunday morning!

It didn’t take the club’s Twitter account long to demand a call-up for McCarthy after he dispatched two early goals to the net.

Retribution didn’t take long to follow!

But before long Blackwater had turned the game on its head.

However McCarthy’s third goal sent the club’s Twitter account into raptures, while acknowledging the ‘scuttiness’ of the strike.

McCarthy’s treble wasn’t quite enough, though, as Blackwater won after extra-time to progress to the Wexford District final.

Thanks to the volunteers in Wexford GAA for the clip. You can check out more of their excellent videos on their Facebook page.
