Irish man Ibrahim Halawa, who has been imprisoned in Egypt for more than three years, is now refusing visits.

The Dubliner feels the more visits he receives behind bars, the longer he will remain there.

Ibrahim has been in jail since 2013 after being arrested taking pictures of a Muslim Brotherhood protest in Cairo.

On October 2, the 20-year-old faces his 15th rescheduled trial with 493 other people.

His sister Somaia says that Ibrahim has entered deep depression and refusing to see anyone.

She said: “On Monday, my mother headed to visit Ibrahim, however as it was time to be called for the visit she got the news that Ibrahim is refusing visits from now on and will also refuse the embassy visit that might take place at the end of this week.

“The reason given is that Ibrahim has entered deep depression and is refusing to see anyone.

“Ibrahim feels that there is not much effort nor pressure being done after three years of his imprisonment and that our government is still waiting for a judiciary system that has set his next trial date on October 2 which is a national holiday in Egypt, and therefore there will be another deferral already.”
