A man accused of murdering David Byrne at the Regency Hotel in Dublin has been further charged with firearms offences today.

Patrick Hutch Jnr, from Champions Avenue, Dublin 1 is alleged to have been in possession of three AK47s on the day of the shooting.

At around 2.30pm on February 5, an armed gang burst into a boxing weigh-in that was taking place at the Regency hotel.

Hundreds of fans were attending the event. David Byrne, a 34-year-old father of two from Crumlin, was shot dead. A number of others were injured.

In May, Patrick Hutch Jnr appeared in court charged with Mr Byrne’s murder.

Today, the 24-year-old was brought before Judge Victor Blake who was told he is now facing further charges in connection with the shooting.

He is accused of having three AK47 assault rifles at the Regency hotel on the day of the murder and of having them with intent to endanger life.

Mr Hutch did not address the court this afternoon and was further remanded in custody for a week.

At a previous hearing, the court heard the Director of Public Prosecutions is deciding whether the trial should be heard before the Special Criminal Court.
