Building representatives say a lack of investment in infrastructure is holding the country back.

In its pre budget submission the Construction Industry Federation is warning the Government that it will not solve the housing crisis without increasing the amount of money being spent.

There’s less than a fortnight to go before budget day and CIF Director General Tom Parlon says the Government may end up delivering housing to what could become unsustainable ‘ghost’ communities: “If Cork and Limerick and Galway were connected by a decent road infrastructure and having good broadband, there would be a massive counter-balance.

“It would be cheaper for people to live there, it is already becoming a major issue with the big FDI’s the likes of Apple and Paypal and so on that the future employees that they will be employing here, are having grave difficulty finding places to live.”
