Cancer nurses in Cork are holding a work-to-rule this week.

Members of the INMO on the Oncology/Radiotherapy Ward at Cork University Hospital will hold the industrial action from 8pm on Wednesday morning.

The dispute centers around nurse staffing levels on the ward.

During the work to rule members will withdraw from clerical and support duties and prioritise direct nursing care.

INMO Industrial Relations Officer, Mary Rose Carroll said: “Our members are extremely concerned about patient safety and are frustrated and disappointed at management’s inadequate response to their legitimate concerns.

"The staffing deficits on the ward are further compounded by the opening of additional beds.

"INMO members wish to highlight their concerns in relation to maintaining their professional registration and believe that working in this difficult environment is having a detrimental effect on their health and well-being.

"They have been left with no other option but to take this course of action.”
