HIQA has called for more legislation to protect those at risk of abuse in the health system.

The healthcare watchdog made the recommendation in their submission to the Oireachtas Committee on Future Healthcare.

The body also called for a universal healthcare system to be established.

The submission recommends more integrated care involving primary care centres, and a modernising of the HSE’s ICT systems.
