Irish naval vessel the LÉ Samuel Beckett has rescued 220 migrants in the Mediterranean.

In the first of two rescues, the ship picked up 125 people near Tripoli.

The vessel then rescued 95 migrants a short time later from a rubber craft nearby.

Those rescued have been given food and medical attention

Ireland’s naval vessels have so far helped in the rescue of more than 12, 500 people in the Mediterranean.
