The transport minister has admitted the state’s subsidy for public transport services isn’t high enough.

But Shane Ross says he simply doesn’t have the money to increase the subventions to services like Dublin Bus, Bus Eireann and Irish Rail.

He’s appearing before the Oireachtas transport committee this morning to discuss the future of transport funding.

He says the transport sector consumes cash at a major rate – and he is open to suggestions about how to manage it better.
