Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic accident.

One man died in the two-vehicle collision in Co Roscommon last night.

The man in his 50s died after his motorcycle collided with a tractor on the N5 between Strokestown and Scramoge Cross.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Roscommon Hospital.

The driver of the tractor was uninjured in the incident.

The road remains closed this morning and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí in Boyle have been carrying out forensic examinations of the scene overnight and the road is expected to reopen later today.

They are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
