Alan Carr has revealed he once stood up Kanye West.
The Chatty Man host has become the first guest editor of Heat magazine, and for the issue he set out his celeb-schmoozing credentials by admitting he snubbed one of the most famous men around – and touched his wife Kim Kardashian’s bum.
Carr said: “Oh my God, I love Kanye. He came on the chat show and my Paul said we’re going on holiday to California and Kanye said, ‘Let’s hang out’. I thought it was like one of those, ‘Yeah, yeah, let’s hang out’, and then you turn up and their bodyguards Taser you.
“And then there we were at the airport on the way back and Kanye emailed Paul and said, ‘Hey, are you guys in LA yet?’ I was like, ‘S***, I didn’t know he was genuine’. I felt so bad.”
Talking about rapper Kanye’s missus Kardashian, Carr added: “I love her. She has a great sense of humour and is beautiful. They both turned up with hardly any entourage, talked about anything and then she asked me to touch her bum.
“I mean, it was like being given a guided tour round Stonehenge or something. Well, you have to say yes. So I touched it and it was like a Babybel or an Edam. It was very nice.”
The Channel 4 chat show host has met plenty of A-listers in his time, but when pressed about who the biggest diva of them all was, he said it had to be Mariah Carey.
He explained: “Mariah Carey was up there because she could only be filmed from the left side, which meant we would have to rotate the whole of The Friday Night Project studio.
“I just sort of went, ‘Hahahahaha, what you like?’ when she said it. Then she asked for an ostrich feather to fan her down. This was in Regent Street – there was no Ostrich Feathers R Us.”
With Carr taking over briefly at the helm of Heat, The Apprentice boss Sir Alan Sugar should be quaking in his boots.
Asked if he had any scores to settle, Carr said: “Well, I was p***** off with Alan Sugar. I did The Comic Relief Apprentice, which I love, but I got fired.
“They’d edited me so badly. They put that Steptoe and Son music on and while Jonathan Ross, Gok Wan and Jack Dee were running around they just cut to me having a pastry and a cup of tea. For the record, that was my break.
“I mean, I could’ve cried in the back of that taxi cab at the end. You laugh at those people on the show who go, ‘You haven’t heard the last of me’. But I was like, ‘Yeah, f*** you, Sugar’.”
Carr’s guest-edited issue of Heat went on sale on October 11.
