CANNABIS AND cigarettes with a combined estimated value of almost half a million euro were seized with the assistance of detector dogs in two separate hauls at Rosslare Europort last week.
A 33-year-old Irish male was arrested by Gardaí on Friday last after officers seized 20.8kg of herbal cannabis being smuggled into the country from Cherbourg, France, on a cattle truck.
Detector dog Ralph assisted with a search of the vehicle when it was stopped as part of routine operations.
The drugs, with an estimated value of €416,000, were found concealed in a load of ceramics.
Just two days previous, on Wednesday, some 150,000 cigarettes and a van were seized at the port thanks to the assistance of detector dog Alfie.
A Romanian man was questioned following the discovery of the smuggled cigarettes, which were valued in excess of €78,000.
