Daniel Craig has hinted that he isn’t ready to retire from being James Bond any time soon.

The star was speaking at the New Yorker Festival on Friday when he told the crowd that playing 007 is “the best job in the world” and that if he were to give up the role that he “would miss it terribly”.

According to The Independent, he said: “I’ve got the best job in the world doing Bond.

“If I were to stop doing it, I would miss it terribly. I love this job. I get a massive kick out of if and if I can keep getting a kick out of it, I will.”

He had previously remained tight-lipped about whether he planned on returning for another instalment as Bond, telling Time Out magazine last year while promoting Spectre that he had had enough of it for the time being.

Asked whether he would film another Bond movie, he replied: “Now? I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists. No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.”

On whether he meant for good, he added: “I haven’t given it any thought. For at least a year or two, I just don’t want to think about it. I don’t know what the next step is. I’ve no idea. Not because I’m trying to be cagey. Who the f*** knows?

“At the moment, we’ve done it. I’m not in discussion with anybody about anything. If I did another Bond movie, it would only be for the money.”

However, when he was later asked by the Press Association about reprising the role, Daniel joked: “Do I have a choice?”

At the New Yorker Festival, Daniel blamed his previous comments on being away from his family and the physical strains of the role.

He reportedly said: “They say that s*** sticks and that definitely stuck. It was the day after filming. I’d been away from home for a year.”

To date, the 48 year old has appeared in four James Bond films: Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre.
