CELEBRATORY SPIRITS prevailed at Clayton Whites’ Hotel recently, when Relay for Life Wexford presented a cheque for €20,000 to the Irish Cancer Society.

The moving 24-hour ‘Relay for Life’ event took place at Pairc Charman, Wexford town, in August and saw families and friends old and new come together to show solidarity with sufferers, to remember loved ones who have passed and to fight back against cancer.

All who were involved received warm thanks and congratulations from Eileen Kearney of the Irish Cancer Society as proceeds were presented.

Ms. Kearney told the gathering of many of those who had participated in the event that the funds raised will help enable the Irish Cancer Society to continue providing a high quality support service to cancer patients and their families.

Chairperson of Relay for Life Wexford, Gay Murphy, said that, to her, “Relay was so much more than a fundraising effort.

Relay for Life was an event that brought out community here in Wexford together to celebrate, remember and fight back.

Family, friends and, in some cases, even strangers registered on teams and walked together in solidarity with those who have been touched by cancer.”

Cancer survivors were an integral element of the Relay for Life event, walking the opening lap in purple t-shirts to symbolise hope.
