Giving older people the option to downsize could free up six years’ supply of first-time buyer homes, according to a new report.

The claim is included in a report by the Housing Agency and Ireland Smart Ageing Exchange.

It has identified a need for 100,000 ‘step down’ housing units, costing a total of around €25bn to build.
