Drake has bagged 12 nominations for the 2016 Soul Train Awards, even after cancelling three shows due to an ankle injury this week.

The American awards programme, which celebrates the best of black music and entertainment, put the 29-year-old rapper up for best video, album or mixtape, and song of the year.

He is closely followed by Beyonce with eight nominations, as well as Rihanna, Kanye West, Adele, Chance the Rapper, Bryson Tiller and Anderson .Paak.

Teddy Riley and Brandy are also in line to receive special honours.

The awards show, which takes place on November 6 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, will be hosted by Erykah Badu.

There will also be promotional performances featuring Jill Scott and Monica at nearby Mandalay Bay in the days leading up to the main event.

The full show will air on channels BET and Centric on November 27.
