Aladdin is set to be the latest classic Disney movie to be re-imagined for new audiences – and Guy Ritchie is in line to direct it.

The British filmmaker – not exactly known for making child-friendly movies – is in talks with Disney, according to Deadline, to helm the live-action remake.

The original Aladdin, released in 1992, is one of the company’s most enduring films – and won two Oscars.

Aladdin will join Maleficent, Cinderella and huge commercial hit The Jungle Book in Disney’s bid to remake its classic properties – while Beauty And The Beast, Mary Poppins Returns, and even a live-action version of The Lion King are also coming over the next few years.

Guy has just wrapped filming for King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword, but is best known for cult hits Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, and RocknRolla, as well as the first two Robert Downey Jr-starring Sherlock Holmes movies.

As for Aladdin, whoever’s chosen to play Genie has quite the job on their hands to follow Robin Williams’ performance.
