Industrial action is very likely amongst teachers, according to the ASTI.

The union which represents second-level teachers has said that recently qualified teachers are on inferior pay scales.

The group will hold a protest outside the Dáil tomorrow evening to highlight their concerns.

ASTI president Ed Byrne said that the current pay scares are unfair.

“In recent weeks we have seen the dispute on the buses be solved because the trade unions representing the bus drivers were able to go in without preconditions,” he said.

“I’m afraid every time I meet the Government, I have a precondition, it’s called the Lansdowne Road Agreement.

“And therefore, I just get a mantra – ‘Lansdowne Road is the only show in town’.”
