A guide to help women report and deal with online harassment has been launched by Women’s Aid and Facebook.
The charity has partnered with the social media website to help raise awareness and prevent abuse online.
Women are also being urged to look out for “danger signs” in their relationships, and to report abuse through tools on social media sites.
Director of Women’s Aid, Margaret Martin, says research shows that half of the online abuse reported by women comes from their current or ex-partners.
Ms Martin said: “There’s a really strong relationship between stalking and more serious assault and harm when you’re in an intimate relationship.
“Because the abuser knows an awful lot about you, has a range of contacts where they can gather information and use cyberstalking and they can use real stalking to threaten women, to intimidate women.
“So, it’s very important that we build measures.”
