A man is in hospital after what Gardaí have described as a “serious assault” in Limerick city last night.

The man, in his 50s, suffered serious head injuries in an altercation with another man at Lord Edward St in the city at around 7.45pm last night.

He was taken to University Hospital Limerick and has since been moved to Cork University Hospital.

The other man involved in the altercation fled the scene, and there have been no arrests.
