Doctor Who boss Steven Moffat has dismissed speculation that Peter Capaldi could leave Doctor Who.

Rumours that the star could step down from the role were sparked by Steven’s own decision to quit.

And previous Doctor David Tennant left when then showrunner Russell T Davies decided to call it a day.

But Steven told IGN: “Me leaving has got no impact on the regeneration. Nothing at all. There’s no reason that should be the case.

“I suppose it happened the last time and that’s why people are thinking that way, but”, he added: “There’s no need for those two things be in sync.”

He said that regenerating the Doctor was no easy feat, adding: “It’s terrifying.”

Steven, who is being replaced by Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall, said of his final season: “I don’t have any interest in making some sort of grand goodbye.”

A Doctor Who Christmas special will air later this year, while series 10, Steven’s last, is scheduled to be broadcast in 2017.
