Sky Sports’ Super Sundays have become a bit of a running joke in the world of football.

Saturday is the recognised football day in Britain, with the lion’s share of matches taking place on the first day of the weekend from lunchtime until dinner.

Meanwhile, Sunday usually hosts no more than a couple of fixtures, and although occasionally the stars align and a few big games land on the seventh day of the week, this Sunday was not one of those days.

Not exactly glamour ties, right? But it’s football, and while on the surface the games didn’t look all that intriguing, there was still a possibility of great drama, wasn’t there?

Well the first game didn’t exactly pan out that way, as Opta explained.

Even Watford sounded relieved when the final whistle went: “It’s over!”

Super Sunday was beginning to seem suspiciously un-super…

Perhaps some decent action in the Southampton/Burnley fixture would salvage the day?

It did not look good after 45 minutes.

And then the second half came alive – but was it ‘super’?

No, apparently not.

“Dismal Dimanche.” Nice.
