A man is due to appear in court this morning charged in connection with murder in Limerick city.

The 32-year-old was arrested following the death of 51-year-old Gerard Freyne following an assault on Wednesday night.

He has been charged in connection with the investigation and is due before Limerick District Court.

Mr Freyne died at Cork University Hospital on Friday as a result of his injuries.
