Parents are being advised to avoid certain teething tablets or gels that could be dangerous for children.
The Health Products Regulatory Authority says some homeopathic tablets or gels manufactured in the US are not licensed for use or retail sale here – however, the unlicensed products may be advertised and available to buy online.
The tablets and gels are distributed by CVS, Hyland’s, and possibly others.
Parents using products have been advised to stop using them immediately and dispose of them safely.
An investigation in the US found they can cause serious side effects including seizures, breathing issues, excessive sleepiness and agitation.
The announcement does not apply to the two homeopathic teething products available on the Irish market – Teetha Teething Granules and Teetha Teething Gel – which are manufactured by Nelsons.
