Strictly Come Dancing enjoyed another comfortable win over The X Factor in Sunday night’s TV ratings.

An average of 9.2 million people tuned in to see Strictly’s results show on BBC One, with the audience peaking at 10.1 million when BBC presenter Naga Munchetty lost the dance-off to singer Anastacia.

The X Factor attracted an average of 6.7 million viewers, peaking at 7.7 million when Freddy Parker became the second act to be eliminated.

The gap between both shows – 2.5 million – was not as big as that on Saturday night, when Strictly Come Dancing pulled in four million more viewers than its rival.

So far this year Strictly’s overnight ratings are around one million higher than the equivalent point in 2015.

Official ratings, which include viewers who recorded the show and watched it up to seven days after transmission, have been as high as 10.6 million: enough to place it in the top 20 most-watched programmes of the year so far.

Sunday night also saw the latest episode of BBC One’s Poldark attract an average audience of 5.0 million, while at the same time ITV’s new period drama Tutankhamun pulled in 4.5 million.
