The Dáil has heard claims that the Chief Justice has contacted the Taoiseach with concerns about a shortage of judges.
The claims were made by the Fianna Fáil leader Micheal Martin, who says the judiciary has major concerns about a shortage of members.
Enda Kenny has denied judicial appointments are being held up due to a row with the Independent Alliance.
Micheal Martin says he believes a shortage of judges has led to a major intervention from the Four Courts: “I understand and you can confirm whether this has happened or not that the Chief Justice, the President of the High Court have actually approached the government with a view to the appointment of more judges to the court of appeal, now either that has happened or it hasn’t happened.”
