A Detective Garda was told he would be killed and his house burned down after he and other officers carried out a late night raid on the home of an accused man, a court heard, Tuesday writes David Raleigh.
Darren O’Halloran, (31), of Aurea Cottage, Dublin Road, Limerick, has pleaded not guilty at Limerick Circuit Court to charges of threatening to kill Det Gda Pat Whelan, Henry Street garda station, Limerick, and threatening to burn down the garda’s home.
John O’Sullivan, prosecuting, told a sworn-in jury of eight men and four women, that it is alleged Det Gda Whelan and a team of other officers called to Mr O’Halloran’s address on March 29, 2015, and left some time after 2.35am.
Mr O’Sullivan said the injured party later took a phone call at work on April 2, 2015, and put the call on loud speaker.
He said it is alleged the accused identified himself in the call and told Det Gda Whelan: “Look Pat, we’ll do no more crime if ye back off me and Aaron.”
The court heard Det Gda Whelan made it clear he would not back off to which Mr O’Halloran allegedly replied…”I will kill ye, you c**t, with your big yellow house and I will burn it to the ground. Don’t be coming to my house in the middle of the night.”
Mr O’Sullivan said another garda took notes of the alleged phone conversation.
The case was adjourned for legal argument and is due to resume Wednesday morning.
