Ministers have agreed that they will not accept a pay increase worth almost €4,000 next year.
The Cabinet has decided that Ministers will not take a pay rise next year.
The “unanimous” decision was made today after there was outrage sparked by the €11,735 pay hike due to ministers between April 2017 and April 2019 as part of a pay restoration deal.
They, along with TDs, are entitled to the pay increase under the Lansdowne Road Agreement which also awards every other civil and public servant a pay rise.
The deal would have seen the Taoiseach Enda Kenny get three pay rises worth €14,650.
However, Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil have said they will leave it up to individual TDs to decide if they will take a €2,700 pay rise due in April.
Public Expenditure Minister Paschal Donohoe is expected to make a statement confirming the Cabinet’s decision later today, according to the Independent.
