A crowd of up to 150,000 gathered in Manchester yesterday to celebrate Britain’s success in the Olympics and Paralympics in Rio this summer.

They were there to salute medal-winning heroes like Jessica Ennis-Hill and Max Whitlock but unbeknownst to them were also cheering on this pair of spoofers.

The athletes were being paraded through the city on flatbed trucks and the two young men managed to wangle their way onto the float carrying the women’s hockey team, courtesy of some replica tracksuits and fake medals.

Sky News reporter Paul Kelso spotted the imposters and asked them for an interview.

They made a commendable attempt to keep the ruse going, claiming to have won for fencing and showing off their medals.

But they owned up when Kelso cut in to say: “So you’re a couple of blaggers aren’t you?”

“Absolutely, we blag something every now and then. We’ve got to get off at the next stop to be honest.”

10/10 for effort lads.
