It might have been an off-hand comment, but debate is rife after Justin Bieber asked concert-goers in Birmingham to “take a chill pill” because their screaming was “obnoxious”.

The 22-year-old tried to open his heart to the audience at the Barclaycard Arena about the loneliness of tour life, but had to stop mid-sentence because, even with a giant sound system, he apparently couldn’t get a word out amid the shrieks of his elated fans.

So what do you think? Was he being rude and unappreciative, or just trying to speak to his fans?

You decide…

Taking a momentary break from tunes during the Purpose tour show, he said to the crowd:

“Could you do me a favour? Can you guys just relax for like two seconds? I’ve been on the road…”

As he was cut off by deafening screams to his left, he said: “I’m like two feet away from them. I appreciate the love, that’s amazing. Just try to show me love in a different way. Screaming is just so obnoxious.

“Take a chill pill for a second and listen to me speak. I don’t feel like I’m being heard sometimes and it gets a little frustrating.

“I’m away from my friends and away from my family, so it can be tough sometimes, but I have all you beautiful people to keep me company.”

He then finishing off his speech with: “Now scream.”

So can you empathise? Or are you outraged? Or, like some fans, are you just not that bothered?
