Hollywood star Elijah Wood has branded the US election “a circus” and claimed Donald Trump does not have the “character” to be president.
The Lord Of The Rings actor said he was disturbed by the race between Mr Trump and Hillary Clinton ahead of the final presidential debate in Las Vegas.
Elijah told the Press Association: “It’s a circus. It’s an unprecedented time in our political process.
“It’s really disturbing. I suppose it can be kind of funny, darkly, from an outside perspective. It’s a little scary.”
Of Mr Trump, he added: “He’s not for me. I believe in a president having character and I don’t feel he’s got character.”
Elijah, who attended the Los Angeles premiere of BBC America series Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, said he believed it was “looking good” for Mrs Clinton to claim victory in the November 8 election.
He is the latest in a string of Hollywood stars to voice opposition to Mr Trump, whose controversies have included making lewd comments about women and calling for a ban on Muslims entering the US.
Tom Hanks said he was “offended as a man” after a 2005 video recording surfaced in which Mr Trump talked about grabbing women “by the p***y”.
The Cast Away star told the Press Association: “It’s not right, I’m sorry. It’s not right at work. it’s not right in the locker room. It’s wrong, period.”
Robert De Niro also launched a scathing verbal attack on Mr Trump, in which he said he wants to “punch him in the face”.
Robert said of the Republican candidate: “He’s so blatantly stupid. He’s a punk, he’s a dog, he’s a pig, he’s a con, a bulls**t artist, a mutt who doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”
However, Jon Voight has voiced support for Mr Trump, posting a video online in which he said the property tycoon “will save our America, and he will certainly make it great again”.
Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, which stars Wood and British actor Samuel Barnett, airs on Netflix in the UK in December.
