Children’s educational comedy show Horrible Histories could be in line for three awards for its special episode commemorating Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary.

It’s the second year in a row that the BBC programme has been nominated in the Comedy, Writing and Performer categories of the British Academy Children’s Awards – and the final winners will be announced at a ceremony in London’s Roundhouse on November 20.

Actor Tom Stourton is up for the Performer category, for his portrayal of William Shakespeare in the episode Horrible Histories Special: Sensational Shakespeare.

The online-only educational show TrueTube has also received three nominations – including Channel of the Year as well as Learning: Secondary and Drama for two separate episodes.

Other programmes to receive at least two nominations included the revival of 1960s stop-motion animation, Clangers.

Feature films nominations went to Zootropolis, The Good Dinosaur, The Jungle Book and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The Star Wars franchise has also spanned across to the Game category, with a nomination for Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens, alongside Lego Dimensions, Ratchet & Clank and Tearaway Unfolded.

Other categories in the awards line-up include Animation, with a nomination for Shaun the Sheep, and Factual, with one for a Blue Peter episode.

There are also awards for International, Presenter, Writer and a number of Preschool and Learning categories.

The final ceremony will be hosted by British actor and comedian Doc Brown.
