The funeral of Munster rugby legend Anthony Foley will take place later in his home town of Killaloe.

He will be remembered as a legendary player, coach, captain, friend and father. He is survived by his wife Olive and the couple’s two young sons.

The funeral Mass will take place at 12 noon at St Flannan’s Church, with burial afterwards at Reilig Lua.

Thousands of people turned out in Killaloe in Co Clare yesterday to pay their final respects to the Munster legend. Two hour-long queues formed at St Flannan’s Church as people waited patiently to pay their respects.

Anthony Foley’s remains were brought to his home at 8.30pm for his family to spend a final few hours with him.

The mourners have included many well-known faces from rugby, with Ireland boss Joe Schmidt, Dougie Howlett and members of the Leinster team among those in attendance.

Leinster, Ireland and Lions talisman Johnny Sexton also paid tribute along a number of his provincial teammates. Connacht coach Pat Lam also travelled.

Former Munster, Ireland and Lions star Keith Wood, a close friend of Foley, was among the first to queue outside the church on Thursday morning.
