Irish soccer club Dunbar Celtic have struck a deal with Umbro for a new kit, but they need Facebook users help to get it.

The Cork city-based club are badly in need of a new set of jerseys but are struggling to get the money together, so club treasurer Ian O’Donoghue decided to try something different.

“I had seen other organisations get stuff on social media so I said I’d have a go and chance my arm.”

He made contact with the sportswear giant on Facebook and suggested they donate a kit.

Initially they said no but after a bit of persuasion they struck a deal. They will give the club a new kit if they can get 50,000 likes on this post – in ONE week.

“It’s a bit of a stretch, I know,” Ian admitted. “But all the lads in the club are sharing it and we have reached 1000 likes already after one day.

“We’re going to give it a good go.”

The club are doing well on the field, where they play in the Cork AUL League and also compete in the Umbro-sponsored FAI Junior Cup.

But a bad injury last year led to a massive increase in their insurance. And even though they still have some loyal sponsors, including local bar The Gallows, others have fallen away leaving them struggling for money.

So Ian and his teammates are appealing for assistance. If you would like to help the get a new kit, just like and share the post on Facebook.

An Irish representative of Umbro said it would be a big ask, but wished the club well in their quest.
