Members of the public who are planning to travel to Anthony Foley’s funeral should allow plenty of time for the journey as huge crowds are expected to flock to the church to pay their final respects to the rugby legend, writes jimmy Woulfe.
Fr Pat Malone, PP, Clarecastle will be the chief celebrant for the midday Requiem Mass in St Flannan’s parish church in Killaloe. The Mass will be followed by burial after in the Relig Nua graveyard.
Only family and friends will be allowed to enter the church for the Mass.

A spokesman for the Foley family said: “The crowds attending yesterday were as vast as we could have anticipated and we are urging people not to leave it late to travel to Killaloe today to pay their respects
A Garda traffic plan is in place throughout the morning and early afternoon.
A garda spokesman said: “A one-way system will be in place around Killaloe along the R463 with the junction of Killaloe Bridge, to Abbey St., Convent Hill, right onto Crossroads, Thomas St., Chapel Street, left onto New St. and back onto the main Scariff road – R463.”
He said to enable a free flow for the one-way system the following junctions will be closed off to traffic: New Street/Main Street; Thomas St/Chapel Street; St. Flannan’s Rd/Main Street; St Flannan’s Rd/Convent Hill; New Street/Ogonnelloe Rd. Killaloe square will be free of all traffic today.
Funeral vehicular traffic coming from the Birdhill Road/M7 direction will not be permitted to proceed over Killaloe bridge, with three park and ride locations along the Birdhill to Ballina Road serviced by buses bringing people to Ballina, from where they will cross the bridge and make their way to Killaloe church.
“Only non-funeral local traffic will be permitted to cross the bridge.”
