Update October 23, 11.25am: Leo Varadkar is still the firm favourite to replace Enda Kenny as leader of Fine Gael, according to the latest opinion poll.
The Millward Brown poll for the Sunday Independent reveals that Social Protection Minister Varadkar is the first choice among Fine Gael supporters with 39%, with Housing Minister Simon Coveney on 25%.
Micheál Martin remains the most popular leader with a 43% satusfaction rating.
Enda Kenny and Gerry Adams are both on 29%, with Labour Party leader Brendan Howlin at 25%.
Earlier: Fianna Fáil’s Micháel Martin remains the most popular party leader, in a new opinion poll published tonight.
However the Millward Brown poll for the Sunday Independent also sees Fine Gael retain a narrow lead as the most popular party.
The poll – which was taken before and after the Budget – has Fine Gael on 29%, with Fianna Fáil on 27% and Sinn Féin on 20%.
Labour are on 8%, with the Greens on 2%, and Independents and others sharing 15% of the vote.
