WEXFORD LIONS club’s third annual ‘Caring for Carers’ weekend took place recently at Ballyvaloo, Blackwater.

Carers from counties Dublin, Kildare, Tipperary, Waterford, Wexford and Wicklow gathered for the occasion.

They were greeted by Mayor Frank Staples, who praised the role that carers play in communities by saying: “you take on a responsibility that doesn’t operate Monday to Friday, 9 to 5, but, more often, a twenty four / seven role which can be very rewarding but also overwhelming at times.”

President of the Wexford Club, Dan Redmond, joined the Mayor in welcoming the guests and reminded them that the weekend was all about them.

You are often forgotten for the work you do.

Wexford Lions Club is privileged to host this weekend for you,” he said.

Festivities enjoyed included live music on Friday and Saturday night, as well as presentations from an IT specialist and motivational speaker.

Bob Carley’s two-hour talk left group members feeling encouraged and rejuvenated.

Group and individual sessions with a reflexologist, beautician, fashion adviser and counsellor were also well received.

Carers enjoyed the opportunity to meet and exchange stories with others in similar positions.
