It is being reported that Katie Taylor will fight twice as a professional before Christmas.
The 30-year-old is widely rumoured to be turning pro, with fights on November 26 in London and then on December 10 in Manchester (on Antony Joshua’s undercard) being mooted.
According to the Irish Sun, she has yet to sign the deal but only because she’s been concentrating on training in America.
An announcement by promoter Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Sports company is expected soon.
It has already been confirmed by Boxing Ireland coach Zaur Antia that Taylor will not travel to the European Women’s Championships in Bulgaria in November.
Meanwhile, former pro boxer Bernard Dunne believes going pro is the logical step for the Bray fighter.
“If she was going to continue boxing, I think logic tells you that the next step would have been into the professional ranks,” he told 2fm’s Game On programme.
“I think Tokyo 2020, and getting ready for that, would be a bit more of a challenge. Plus the fact that when you look over Katie’s career, she has got European, World and Olympic medals.
“Maybe it’s time for a fresh start and a fresh challenge.”
