The National Bravery awards were presented this afternoon at Farmleigh in Dublin.

The actions of the recipients saved dozens of lives over the past year.

Among those recieving awards were Buncrana tragedy hero Davitt Walsh.

Another recipient was John Connors who rescued his brother and another child from the Carrickmines fire.

The only gold medal was awarded posthumously to Ricky Osagie.

Ricky drowned while helping to save two women who got into difficulty swimming in a lake in Blanchardstown.

His friend Lee Weir was also awarded a certificate of bravery.

Members of the Kilmore Quay Lifeboat (pictured) recieved an award for saving nine of the 10 crew from an overturned boat in Co Wexford.

The huge bravery of 34 people from 10 different counties was recognised at the Ceremony in Farmleigh earlier.
